MADISON, Wis. - UNO junior Matt White was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. He is the fourth Maverick to win one of the WCHA's weekly honors.
White led the Mavericks in scoring last weekend during their road sweep of Alaska Anchorage, netting a goal and five assists for six points. In Friday's opener, he scored a goal and had the primary assist on the game-winning goal in a 3-0 win over the Seawolves. The next night, he tied a school record with four assists, including the primary assist on the overtime game winner, in a 6-5 victory that gave the Mavericks their school-record tying sixth sweep of the season.
The native of Whittier, Calif. finished the weekend tied for the team lead with a +4 rating, and he also had one blocked shot. White is tied for second in team scoring with 31 points in 30 games this season and is in a four-way tie for 10th in WCHA scoring for all games played.
White joins Zahn Raubenheimer and Josh Archibald among UNO players who have earned the league's offensive player of the week honor this season. Goaltender John Faulkner also has earned the league's defensive player of the week honor twice.
The 14th-ranked Mavericks take a week off from WCHA play to host the U.S. National Under-18 team in an exhibition game on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 7:37 p.m. In spite of the forecast for snow in the Omaha area on Thursday, the game will be played as scheduled.
