Warren Dominates as Creighton Collects First BIG EAST Win

Sophomore Matt Warren authored the first complete game for Creighton baseball since 2012 as the Bluejays earned their first BIG EAST win, 2-0, over Georgetown on Friday, April 11.

The win lifted Creighton to 16-11-1 on the season and 1-0 in the BIG EAST, while Georgetown fell to 12-18 and 0-4 in conference play.

The only offense of the game came in the bottom of the fifth as junior Jake Peter lifted a two-run triple into the left field corner, plating freshman Nicky Lopez and sophomore Ryan Fitzgerald who had each walked in the frame.

Warren, however, was the story of the game. The Omaha native limited Georgetown to just two hits in his first complete game and first shutout as a Bluejay. Warren walked four and recorded two strikeouts in the effort, needing just 106 pitches for his seventh win (7-0) of the season and eighth consecutive over two years.

The Hoyas only real threat came in the eighth as Warren worked around two walks with an inning-ending ground out from Nick Collins.

While Georgetown had just two hits as Fitzgerald and senior Mike Gerber joined Peter with one hit in the contest.

Creighton and Georgetown will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 12 beginning at 12 pm to wrap up the series. Originally scheduled to begin at 2 pm, the Bluejays and Hoyas moved up Saturday's first game in hopes of avoiding foretasted rain on Sunday, April 13.
