Championship organizers for the 2013 U.S. Senior Open, conducted by the United States Golf Association, have released the schedule of events for the week of July 8-14 at Omaha Country Club.

Championship week begins with practice rounds on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, which offer spectators the opportunity to watch the world’s best senior golfers practice their skills and adjust to playing a new course. Players tee off at various times throughout the day and spectators are encouraged to review the practice board upon entering the main gate. This is also the best time to obtain autographs and photographs as personal cameras are not permitted when championship play begins on Thursday, July 11.

Several special events will occur during the practice rounds, including an exhibition with Dennis Walters on Tuesday, July 9 at 2 p.m. on the practice range. Information on Walters’ golf show and inspirational message can be found at www.denniswalters.com. His one-hour program will be held in conjunction with Military Day.

For Tuesday’s practice round, all military personnel and their families, both active and retired, with proper identification will receive complimentary admission to the championship. Military personnel will be able to secure their tickets at the admissions gate. Additional activities will honor U.S. military during the course of the day; beginning with the presentation of the colors and the singing of the national anthem on the 1st tee at 7 a.m. Members of the military will announce the player groupings from the 1st and 10th tees during Tuesday’s play.

U.S. Senior Open champions Fred Funk and Hale Irwin will challenge former University of Nebraska quarterback and Heisman trophy-winner Eric Crouch and NFL running back Danny Woodhead to various golf skills on Wednesday, July 10 at 2 p.m. on the practice range. WOWT-TV news anchor John Knicely will act as the emcee for the exhibition. No special ticket is required.

The first two rounds of the Senior Open are scheduled for Thursday and Friday and the gates open at 6:30 a.m. The championship will use a two-tee start for the opening two rounds, with players starting from both the first and 10th tees at 7 a.m. Spectators can pick up a pairings guide at many locations on the course. The guide lists tee times and includes a course map.

Saturday and Sunday offers an increased level of excitement as the 156-player field is reduced to the low 60 scores and ties. All players begin their rounds from the first tee at approximately 8 a.m. A trophy presentation to crown the 2013 U.S. Senior Open champion will be held on the 18th green late Sunday afternoon. Championship officials recommend that spectators arrive early for the best view and best grandstand seats.
