Theriot Captures Second Big Ten Honor Weekly Honor

Nebraska sophomore Rachel Theriot claimed her second Big Ten Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week award in the past six weeks, when the conference office announced its weekly honors on Tuesday.

The 6-0 point guard from Middleburg Heights, Ohio, was at the controls of a Husker offense that blitzed No. 8 Penn State for 52 first-half points in a 94-74 victory at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Monday night. Theriot, who helped the Huskers build a 32-point lead on the Lady Lions, engineered an NU offense that was shooting 70 percent from the field with 12 minutes left in the game.

Theriot, who has guided the Huskers to a 21-5 record and an 11-3 Big Ten mark, including their current eight-game winning streak, averaged 21.5 points, 6.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds last week. She scored 26 points and pulled down a career-high-tying seven rebounds in a win at Ohio State last Thursday. She added four assists while playing the full 40 minutes. Theriot contributed 17 points and eight assists against Penn State, hitting 6-of-10 shots from the floor, including all three of her three-point attempts to help Nebraska go 16-for-22 from beyond the arc – the best three-point shooting performance in NCAA Division I women’s basketball this season.

Over the last five games, Theriot is averaging 17.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 7.6 assists while shooting 54.8 percent from the field, including 80 percent (8-10) from three-point range and a perfect 12-for-12 at the free throw line. Her 38 assists in the stretch have come against just 11 turnovers.
