Brett Hayes hit his seventh homer of the year and three Omaha pitchers held the Cubs to one run on five hits in a 3-1 win at Des Moines Sunday afternoon.
Iowa went up 1-0 in the first on Edwin Maysonet's sixth home run. Hayes' blast tied it in the third.
Xavier Nady led off the Storm Chaser fourth with a single and Max Ramirez did likewise. Irving Falu sacrificed them over into scoring position and Anthony Seratelli walked. After Hayes struck out swinging, Quintin Berry singled home Nady and Ramirez.
Yordano Ventura (1-1) pitched five innings for the win, giving up the one run on three hits, striking out five and walking one. Will Smith went three innings and Francisley Bueno pitched the ninth for his first save.
Guillermo Moscoso (2-5) took the loss for the Cubs.
