Mike Jirschele, the winningest manager in Omaha franchise history, was promoted Friday to be a coach with the parent Kansas City Royals.
Jirschele led the Storm Chasers to the Triple-A National Championship and a second Pacific Coast League Championship in the last three seasons in 2013. He has been in the Royals' organization since 1992 and has been the manager of the Chasers for the last 11 seasons, posting a record of 995-1,018.
The Royals also added former Seattle Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu, who will serve as bench coach and catching instructor after working as a special assignment scout for the New York Yankees this past season. Wakamatsu managed the Mariners in 2009 and 2010.
Former Cub manager Dale Sveum, who joined the Royals earlier this month, will serve as third base coach and oversee infield instruction.
KC pitching coach Dave Eiland, hitting coach Pedro Grifol, first base/outfield/baserunning coach Rusty Kuntz and bullpen coach Doug Henry are all returning.
