During week 2 of Friday Night Fever Northwest High School won its first football game since 2008. We were there to capture the excitement and talked with players the following week about how the win is motivating the team to succeed.

“I believed in our players. I believed in our school, I believed in our coaching staff,” said Nigel Phillips.

Sometimes you just have to believe, work hard and hope you’ll succeed.

When the Northwest Huskies had a chance to end a 28 game losing streak, they knew they wanted a win.

“Our kids have been working hard since we took over,” said head coach Tim Clemenger.

And their chance became a reality after a 34-24 win over Benson.

“It was crazy, the game it's self was crazy, we had way too many turnovers. But the fact that we came off with a win I’m just glad that weight it off our shoulders,” said Clemenger.

Marvin Hall has been a senior lineman. He happens to be the only player who’s stayed with the program all four years.

“Everybody here just needed to click here and said you know what we this need win,” said Hall.

Nigel Phillips has been on the team for three years and never experienced anything like he did the night they won.

“I had 53 text messages just from the night and I woke up in the morning, I was kind of sore but it felt good. That was the first time I felt good when I was sore,” said Phillips.

It’s a feeling that's carried over to week's practice and that's been the expectation all season.

“The sense that I got from the kids is that they were sick and tired of everybody feeling sorry for them. They just wanted and really yearning for higher expectations of them and you're seeing it on the field now,” said Coach.

The Huskies lost in week 3 to Lincoln Pius. But they say they’ll continue working hard and hope to come away with a few more wins.
