Seniors Lead Mavericks Past Tigers in OT, 2-1

Michael Young capped Senior Weekend by scoring the overtime game-winning goal as the Omaha hockey team edged Colorado College, 2-1, on Saturday night at the CenturyLink Center.

The Maverick senior captain’s first goal of the season helped the Mavericks sweep the Tigers and improve to 15-15-2 overall and 12-8-2-1 in the NCHC, good for third place. The Tigers dropped to 6-20-6 and 6-11-5-1 in league play, putting them in seventh.

Three seniors combined on the game-winning goal. Brock Montpetit outworked a Tiger defender behind the net and centered a pass to Ryan Walters. Walters was checked and the puck ricocheted to Young who fired a shot over CC goaltender Josh Thorimbert.

The goal ended a close-checking game as the Tigers tried to keep the Mavericks’ high-powered offense under wraps following a 6-0 UNO win on Friday.
