Creighton Slips in Polls

After Saturday's last-second loss at Northern Iowa, the Creighton men's basketball team moved down a few slots in both top-25 polls released on Monday. Creighton is down three spots to 15th in the USA Today/ESPN coaches poll and dropped four slots to 17th in the Associated Press poll.

This is the ninth time in 10 weeks the Jays have been ranked by the writers, and 12th straight week that Creighton has been ranked by the coaches.

In the NCAA's official RPI rankings, Creighton moved down two spots to an MVC-best 16th. Creighton already owns wins against four top-51 teams, including San Diego State (20), Wichita State (27), Northwestern (37) and Northern Iowa (51).

Statistically, Creighton owns the top spot in two offensive categories. The Bluejays continue to lead the nation in field goal percentage (.512) as well as three-point field goal percentage (.448). In NCAA history, the only team to ever finish the year atop both categories was Northern Arizona in 1998-99. In addition, the Bluejays are also second in assists per game (18.7), sixth in assist/turnover ratio (1.47), eighth in winning percentage
(.875) and sixth in scoring offense (81.0).

In terms of attendance, Creighton's season average to 16,470. That figure ranks eighth-best nationally, and is on pace to shatter a Missouri Valley Conference record of 15,930 it set in 2008-09.

Individually, Doug McDermott ranks third in the country in scoring average at 23.4 points per game. He is also eighth in the nation with his 62.4 percent accuracy from the field, 84th in free-throw percentage (.826) and 68th in rebounds per game (8.4). Grant Gibbs is 32nd in assists per game
(5.6) and 34th in assist/turnover ratio (2.33). Antoine Young is 21st in assist/turnover ratio (2.50) and 107th in assists per game (4.4). Inside, Gregory Echenique is 85th in blocked shots per game (1.6) and 132nd with 7.4 rebounds per game.

Creighton (21-3, 11-2 MVC) returns to action on Tuesday night with a visit to Evansville.
