Redbirds Thump Storm Chasers 12-4

The Redbirds scored seven runs in the first inning en route to an 12-4 win over the Storm Chasers Thursday afternoon in Memphis.

Steven Hill hit a three-run homer. Eugenio Velez followed with a double. Ryan Jackson and Cedric Hunter singled for another run. Vance Albitz was hit-by-a-pitch to load the bases and Lou Montanez singled to make it 5-0. Adron Chambers singled home two more.

Nathan Adcock (8-6) lasted one inning, charged with seven runs on eight hits.

Omaha scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and six innings, but the Redbirds got four in the home fifth. Chambers doubled with the bases loaded for two. Brock Peterson singled home two more for an 11-2 lead.

Wil Myers’ 23rd home run of the season in the eighth made it 11-4. Memphis got a run in the bottom of the eighth on a Jackson single, an infield grounder and back-to-back wild pitches by Donnie Joseph.

Tyler Lyons (4-9) got the win. Memphis out-hit Omaha 21-11.
