Omaha Thumps Albuquerque 8-4

OMAHA, Neb. — The Omaha Storm Chasers took game one in the best-of-five American Conference Championship Series as they defeated the Albuquerque Isotopes, 8-4, on Wednesday night. Starter Jake Odorizzi got the win after seven innings of three-run baseball while Wil Myers homered in his first at-bat to help propel Omaha to victory.

The Storm Chasers (1-0) got things going quickly in the first as Mitch Maier walked and Anthony Seratelli reached on a bunt single to set up Myers for his three-run blast. In the third, Myers reached on a walk but was erased on a force out by Clint Robinson, who advanced to second when the next batter, Max Ramirez, walked. Rey Navarro then grounded to the second baseman but Robinson was able to dart home on a throwing error while Navarro reached second. Two batters later, an Adam Moore single plated Navarro to give Omaha a 5-0 lead over the Isotopes (0-1).

The visitors struck for a run in the fifth when Josh Bard homered to right and pulled within two in the sixth when Jerry Sands struck Odorizzi for a two-run home run. Things remained quiet until the eighth when Josh Fields hit a home run off of Roman Colon, who came on in relief of Odorizzi in the eighth inning.

The Storm Chasers pulled away in the bottom of the eighth, scoring three runs in the frame. A bases loaded wild pitch thrown to Max Ramirez scored Maier. Ramirez grounded to the pitcher, Erick Threets, on the very next pitch and as Threets threw to first for the out, the first baseman misplayed the throw and let it bounce off his mitt. As the ball caromed away, Seratelli and Myers came in to score.

Tommy Hottovy pitched a scoreless ninth inning to secure the Chasers 8-4 victory over the Isotopes.
