Nebraska won the final game of its weekend series at Illinois, 7-1 Sunday afternoon.
Tatum Edwards (16-5) won her eighth straight start, tossing a two-hitter. After Illinois scored its only run in the bottom of the first, Edwards surrendered just one hit and allowed only three base runners over the final six innings. She struck out six and worked around four walks and a hit batter.
Brooke Thomason produced a two-run double four batters into the game, ultimately giving Edwards all the run support she would need. Gabby Banda drew three walks adding a single and scoring twice. Freshman Hailey Decker, celebrating her 19th birthday, went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and a walk. Nebraska drew 13 walks in Sunday’s win and 29 walks for the weekend.
The win improved Nebraska’s record to 25-7, 4-1 in Big Ten Conference play. The Illini fell to 11-17, 1-5 in the conference.
