Moore, Hooper Named to Wooden Preseason Top 30

Lincoln - Nebraska's Lindsey Moore and Jordan Hooper earned spots on the John R. Wooden Award Women's Preseason Top 30 announced on Friday, Nov. 9.

Hooper and Moore made their first appearance on the list of top candidates for the Wooden Award. Both Huskers have previously been named to watch lists for both the Wade Trophy and Naismith Trophy, which are also presented to the national player of the year in women's college basketball.

Nebraska is one of just seven schools to have more than one player listed among the top 30 candidates for the Wooden Award. The Huskers join fellow Big Ten school Penn State (Alex Bentley, Maggie Lucas) among that group, which also includes upcoming Nebraska opponent Maryland (Laurin Mincy, Alyssa Thomas). The other schools with more than one honoree are Connecticut, Duke, Kansas and Baylor. The defending national champion Lady Bears are led by reigning national player of the year Brittney Griner.

Moore, a 5-9 senior point guard from Covington, Wash., enters her final season at Nebraska after averaging 15.7 points, 5.1 assists and 2.2 steals per game a year ago for the 24-9 Huskers. Moore, who has started all 98 games of her Nebraska career, ranks No. 16 at NU in career points (1,160), No. 4 assists (504) and No. 8 in three-pointers (121). Moore was one of eight finalists a year ago for the Nancy Lieberman Award, presented to the nation's top point guard.

Hooper, a 6-2 junior forward from Alliance, Neb., enters her third season with the Huskers after averaging 18.9 points and a Big Ten-best 9.3 rebounds per game as a sophomore in 2011-12. Hooper also led the Big Ten with 14 double-doubles a year ago. An honorable-mention AP All-American and a first-team All-Big Ten choice as a sophomore, Hooper ranks No. 22 at Nebraska in career points with 1,078. She also ranks No. 5 on NU's career three-point list with 134. She is No. 8 on Nebraska's career double-doubles chart with 17.

Hooper and Moore lead the Huskers into the start of the 2012-13 campaign tonight against North Carolina A&T. Tip-off between Nebraska and the Aggies is set for 7:05 p.m. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln.
