McDermott Scores 15 In USA Basketball Rout

The United States opened play Sunday at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia with a 140-46 win over the United Arab Emirates. Creighton forward Doug McDermott finished with 15 points and four rebounds.

Led by a USA Men’s World University Games single-game record 13 assists from Indiana's Yogi Ferrell, who finished with 15 points and four steals, the Americans established three U.S. single-game team records in the win, including 36 assists, 70 rebounds and 39 attempted three-pointers.

Jumping out to a 14-3 lead in the first 3:37, the USA forced 22 turnovers overall. The USA led 35-16 at the end of the first quarter, 69-23 at halftime and 100-34 heading into the final quarter.

Sean Kilpatrick from Cincinnati led the Americans with 18 points, Iowa's Aaron White had 16 and Indiana's Will Sheehey added 15 points. UAE's Saleh Zuwayed Khalifa finished with 14.
