The Creighton men's basketball team remained 13th in the USA
Today coaches poll and dropped one spot to 17th in the Associated Press
rankings that were released on Monday. In addition, Doug McDermott was named
MVC Player of the Week and Seth Davis' National Player of the Week.

Creighton has now been ranked in the top 17 by both groups in each of the
first seven polls of the season, reaching as high as No. 11 three weeks ago
in both. The Jays dropped despite a 74-64 win at Cal on Saturday. New Mexico
leapfrogged Creighton after a 73-58 home win vs. New Mexico State.

McDermott had 34 points and nine rebounds in a 74-64 road win at Cal in
Creighton’s only game last week. He made 10-of-17 field goal attempts,
including 4-of-7 shooting from three-point range, and was also perfect at
the free-throw line in 10 attempts.

McDermott had six early points as Creighton bolted to an 8-0 lead after
three minutes and the Jays would maintain the lead the rest of the evening.
He had 18 of Creighton’s 34 points in the first half, then added 16 more
points in the second half.

McDermott is Creighton’s first player since Bob Harstad in 1990 to have 30
or more points in consecutive games. His 34 points give him 1,643 in his
career, moving him from 54th to 51st in MVC history on the all-time scoring

This is the fourth MVC Player of the Week honor of the season for McDermott,
and third in four weeks. His nine career Player of the Week accolades are
second-most in league history, trailing only Bradley great Hersey Hawkins
(14). Since enrolling at Creighton, McDermott has been named the league's
Newcomer or Player of the Week 16 times in 38 weeks.

Statistically, Creighton ranks among the nation's top-12 in eight different
categories. The Jays are sixth in three-point field goal percentage (.415),
seventh in assist/turnover ratio (1.55) and field goal percentage (.508),
eighth in points scored (876), ninth in three-pointers per game (8.9), 10th
in win/loss percentage (.909) and 12th in assists per game (17.2) and
