The Omaha men’s basketball team will make its first appearance in ESPN’s Ramada Worldwide BracketBusters Series later this month, hosting North Dakota at Ralston Arena on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 1 p.m., it was announced Monday evening.
The event runs Feb. 22-23 and features 13 nationally televised games across ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN3. Omaha’s game will not be televised by the ESPN family of networks.
North Dakota owns an overall record of 9-12 and a mark of 6-6 in Big Sky play. UNO has surged in conference play this year, and the Mavericks are 8-17 (5-7 Summit League) through games of Feb. 2.
"It's another step in our transition to Division I as we make our first appearance in ESPN's BracketBusters Series," head coach Derrin Hansen said. "Brian Jones has done a good job taking UND through its transition and getting them to the Division I postseason the last two years. This will be a good barometer for our program versus North Dakota as we see where they are and where we're aspiring to go."
North Dakota and Omaha are both former members of the North Central Conference, and UND leads the all-time series over UNO, 45-32. The two teams have not faced each other since March 9, 2008, when Omaha captured a 75-68 win at the NCC Tournament.
As part of the BracketBusters contract, designated BracketBusters home teams will make a return trip to the visiting school next season.
