Nebraska Omaha hosted North Dakota in a home-opening doubleheader Friday, losing 5-3 and 2-0 to fall to 0-6 on the season.
Andrew Thome (2-1) got the win in game one, going six innings, allowing one run on five hits with six strikeouts and five walks. Matt Tew (0-2) surrendered four runs on six hits with one walk over four innings. Tew struck out a season-high five batters.
UND (7-3-1) took a 3-0 lead in the third, then made it 4-0 in the fourth. Omaha plated its first run in the bottom of the frame as Alex Mortensen drew a lead-off walk and later came home when Dylan Casey grounded into a double play.
North Dakota tacked on another run in the top of the seventh before UNO put up two scores in the bottom of the inning. The Mavericks strung together doubles from Connor Messinger, Mortensen and Cole Gruber, making it 5-3.
In game two, Taylor Petersen went 2-for-3 with a solo homer in the second. North Dakota added a run on Kris Kwak's double to score Patrick Riewer from first.
Alex Twenge (3-0) allowed one hit over two scoreless innings. Cory Buckley (0-1) took the loss for the Mavs, giving up one run on two hits over three innings. Buckley walked five and fanned five.
