Former Husker Aleks Maric returned to the starting lineup on Saturday, helping Australia to a crucial victory over Great Britain at the 2012 London Olympics.
Maric, a two-time All-Big 12 performer for Nebraska, had two points and three rebounds in 11 minutes as Australia picked up a 106-75 win.
Australia, which improved to 2-2 in Preliminary Round Group B, trailed 46-36 at the break before outscoring the host nation 70-29 in the second half. Australia broke the game open in the fourth quarter, using a 40-15 run to extend a six-point lead.
With the win, Australia can finish no worse than fourth in the group and would advance to the quarterfinals, most likely against the winner of Preliminary Round Group B on Wednesday.
Maric has started two of the last three games for Australia, which has won two straight since losses to Spain and Brazil to open tournament play. Australia wraps up group play against Russia at 3 a.m. Monday, Central Time.
Nigeria's Ade Dagunduro, another former Husker, missed his second straight game with a knee injury and the team now faces a must-win game Monday against France.
