Kyle Osterberg scored two goals with an assist and Matias Cleland chipped in a pair of assists as the Lancers edged Team USA 4-3 Friday night at Ralston Arena.
Team USA took a 1-0 lead just :20 into the game when Sonny Milano forced a takeaway in the offensive zone before burying his fourth goal of the season.
Omaha tied it at 9:25 on a power play as Osterberg executed a perfect setup from behind the net to Tucker Poolman who put in his fifth goal of the year.
The Lancers went up 2-1 just over two minutes later when a two-on-one between Kenny Gillespie and Eli Lichtenwald resulted in Gillespie’s sixth tally of the year. They made it 3-1 less than three minutes later when on a two-man advantage, Osterberg beat goaltender Edwin Minney.
The Under-17 team trimmed the deficit to 3-2 3:45 into period two when Chris Wilkie drove home a power play one-timer for his fifth goal of the season. Team USA would tie it up at the 1:08 mark of the third period when Ryan MacInnis was left alone atop the Omaha goal crease before chipping in his third of the season.
Omaha scored the game-winner at 3:56 of the third. Osterberg threw a side angle shot from the left wing that solved Minney for his second goal of the game and fifth of the season.
