The Kansas City Chiefs fired head coach Todd Haley Monday morning. The decision comes one day after another embarrassing performance by his team. The Chiefs lost to the New York Jets 37-10.

The Chiefs’ record stands at 5-8.

Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said in a written statement, “This was a difficult decision, but one that we feel is best for the future of the Chiefs. Although there have been bright spots at different points this season, we have not made meaningful progress and we felt that it was necessary to make a change. We appreciate Todd’s contributions during his time with the club and we wish him well in the future.

The Chiefs traditionally have a strong following in the Omaha metro area. One longtime fan was surprised to learn the news. Jodie Larson said, "They lost their starting quarterback, running back, tight end and their back-up quarterback. I can't believe it. I liked his gutsy calls."

The Chiefs are planning a news conference later Monday to discuss the decision.
