The Kansas City Royals Caravan is arriving in Omaha on Thursday, January 30 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. at The Strike Zone Omaha. Set to appear are 2013 All-Star Alex Gordon and 2013 Storm Chasers Johnny Giavotella and Everett Teaford, as well as an appearance by new Storm Chasers manager Brian Poldberg.
Gordon was selected to his first ever All-Star Game last season along with teammates Salvador Perez and Greg Holland, the most Royal players in the game since 1988. Gordon also collected his third consecutive Gold Glove in 2013, becoming the third player in franchise history to win three or more Gold Glove honors (Amos Otis and Frank White). Gordon was a two-time All-American at the University of Nebraska, sweeping the awards for College Player of the Year in 2005, and played in 86 games across the 2009-10 seasons for the Omaha Royals.
Giavotella and Teaford were major contributors to the 2013 Triple-A National Champions, and both have spent multiple years with the Storm Chasers. Giavotella has played in 299 career games over three seasons at Omaha, and led all qualifying Chasers with a .286 batting average in 2013. Teaford has pitched in 55 career games (24 starts) over four seasons at the Triple-A level and appeared in 31 games for Omaha in 2013, the most at any stop in his career. Both players have spent time with the Royals over the last three seasons.
The Strike Zone Omaha is located at 2900 South 110th Street and the event will be emceed by Joel Goldberg, host of the Royals pre-game and post-game show on Fox Sports Kansas City. Per Kansas City Royals officials, the first 150 fans in attendance will have the opportunity to get autographs from the players at the Caravan event during the 4:00-5:00 timeframe.
Fans will have the opportunity to purchase Storm Chasers ticket packages, including the recently created “Omaha! Omaha!” Sunday Plan.
