Iowa Blanks Storm Chasers 1-0

Three Cub pitchers held the Storm Chasers to three hits making Matt Szczur's RBI single stand up in a 1-0 win over Omaha in the first game of a doubleheader Thursday in Des Moines.

Chris Valaika singled to lead off the home fourth. Two outs later he was on second when Szczur singled to left for the game's only run off reliever Ramon Troncoso (1-1).

Iowa starter Tsuyoshi Wada (4-1) gave up two hits in five innings, striking out eight and walking one. Marcus Hatley and Blake Parker each pitched an inning and kept the Chasers off the scoreboard.
