Illinois State Tops Creighton 66-60

Despite making 10 three-pointers, the Creighton women lost 66-60 at Illinois State Sunday afternoon.

The Bluejays quickly fell behind 7-0 as Illinois State's Alexis Jenkins scored all seven Redbirds points. Sarah Nelson hit two buckets to ignite an 8-0 run as the Jays took an 8-7 lead by the 13:21 mark.

The game remained close over the next eight minutes as the Jays clung to a 19-18 lead with just under six minutes remaining. Creighton rattled off 12 of the next 16 points as five players contributed baskets to push the lead to 31-22 with less than one minute remaining in the half. Illinois State nailed a late three to send the game to halftime at 31-25 Creighton.

The second half saw the Redbirds hit their opening shot, but the Jays responded with back-to-back threes from Ally Jensen and Marissa Janning to push the lead to its largest margin at 37-27.

With 11:36 remaining in the game the Bluejays led 49-41 when Illinois State's Jamie Russell scored six straight points leading a 10-0 run in under three minutes. A trey from Jensen ended the run, but the Redbirds would score 11 more to take a 63-52 lead with 3:54 left.

Russell scored 22 for the Redbirds while Janning led Creighton with 18. The loss dropped the Bluejays to 16-6 and 8-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Illinois State improved to 15-8 and 7-4 in the MVC.
