The Creighton and Nebraska volleyball teams closed out the spring with the benefit "Rumble In Rice" Saturday at Rice Auditorium on the campus of Wayne State University.
Proceeds from the event, expected to be more than $17,500, will go toward reconstruction of the Wayne Summer Sports Complex that was destroyed by the October 4th tornado that hit the area.
An auction between sets included about 10 items donated from the schools, including an autographed Creighton basketball ($325), an autographed Tim Miles basketball ($225) and an autographed Bo Pelini football ($275). Combined with 50 percent of the sales from the tickets (an estimated $30,000), the sellout crowd of 2,050 was treated to a match between two of the Midwest's top programs. Nebraska won the exhibition 25-15, 25-19, 25-22.
