New York Jets rookie wide receiver Quincy Enunwa was arrested earlier this week at a New Jersey hotel near the team's practice facility. Florham Park police say the former Husker was charged with assault after "an altercation with an individual."
The 22-year-old declined comment when questioned Wednesday at practice, saying it was a "pending legal matter." The Jets picked Enunwa in the sixth round of the draft. He had 12 touchdowns for Nebraska last season and was the Gator Bowl MVP.
The Jets cut Enunwa to get down to their 53-man roster before picking him up again for the practice squad on Tuesday.
Authorities didn't say what sparked the alleged altercation last Sunday evening or who else was involved. The New York Post reports Enunwa is accused of “grabbing the victim by her ankle and pulling her off a bed causing her to strike and injure both her head and finger.” The alleged victim suffered minor injuries.
