Creighton sophomore Jake Peter was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week on Monday, March 18.
Peter was 12-for-20 (.600) in five games last week, delivering seven RBI to lead Creighton to a 4-1 record. He also earned his first two saves as a Bluejay, tossing perfect ninth innings against North Dakota (March 14) and Pacific (March 17).
At the plate, Jake had three multi-hit games, including back-to-back four-hit contests against Pacific on March 16 & 17. Peter became the first Bluejay to have four hits in consecutive games since 2003, when Ryan Fitzgerald did it on April1 & 4. Peter finished the week with a .800 slugging percentage, highlighted by a three-run home run against Southeast Missouri State on March 12. Peter also worked three walks and scored three runs this week.
Peter is the second Bluejay to nab the MVC Player of the Week (POTW) award, senior Alex Staehely earned the honor following the first week of the season on Feb. 20. This is Peter's first POTW honor.
Creighton returns to action on Wednesday, March 20 as the Jays host South Dakota State at 4:00 p.m. The Bluejays open MVC play this Friday as the Jays travel to Evansville, Ind. for a three game series with the Purple Aces.
