Creighton Men's Basketball Falls to Boise State, 83-70

OMAHA, Neb. -- Derrick Marks had 28 of his career-high 35 points in the second half as Boise State stunned host Creighton, 83-70, on Wednesday night before 16,364 fans at CenturyLink Center Omaha.

The game was part of the Mountain West/Missouri Valley Conference Challenge Series. The event, now in its fourth year, is being led 2-1 by the MWC this season with six games remaining.

The win over the No. 11 Bluejays was the highest-ranked team that BSU had ever beaten, and just the program's second road win over a ranked team in program history. Marks' 35 points were 10th-most in school history and 11 more than his previous best.

Boise State (5-1) shot the lights out in the first half, making seven straight three-pointers after an initial miss and would lead by as much as 39-28 with 3:10 remaining before the break. An Avery Dingman three-pointer helped Creighton narrow the gap, and at the half the Broncos lead was trimmed to 39-33.

Boise State led by double-figures most of the second half. At one point, Marks scored 18 straight BSU points as the Broncos lead went from 52-44 to 70-58. A late 8-0 flurry drew the Jays within 75-70 with 2:29 to play, but Anthony Drmic answered with a lay-up to start a game-closing 8-0 run for the visitors.

In addition to Marks' 35 points, Drmic finished with 17 and Jeff Elorriaga had 12 points. The Broncos shot 60.4 percent for the game and made 10-of-19 three-pointers on the evening. BSU also became the first team all season to win the rebound battle vs. Creighton, cleaning the glass to a 32-19 advantage.

Creighton (6-1) was paced by 21 points and four rebounds by Doug McDermott, while Grant Gibbs had 17 points and five assists. CU hit 12-of-27 three-pointers in the game and shot 48.1 percent overall.

Creighton remains at home for a Saturday afternoon game vs. Saint Joseph's. Tip-off at CenturyLink Center Omaha is scheduled for 2:05 pm.
