Five Creighton pitchers held Minnesota to five hits and senior Mike Gerber knocked a grand slam as the Jays shut out Minnesota 8-0 Sunday afternoon at Fort Myers, Florida.
The Bluejays (2-4) scored three runs in the fifth, all with two outs. Cody Kottich and Ryan Fitzgerald drew walks and Brad McKewon singled, taking second on an error by right fielder Bobby Juan with Kottich scoring on the play. After Tommy Clouthier walked to load the bases, Jake Peter singled home Fitzgerald and McKewon.
In the ninth, Kottich tripled and pinch-runner Nicky Lopez scored on a Fitzgerald single. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Gerber hit his second homer of the season.
Austin Groth (1-1) got the win in relief and Gopher starter Ben Meyer (0-1) took the loss. Minnesota fell to 4-2.
