An unassisted goal by Jose Gomez midway through the second half broke the scoreless tie and Creighton added two more to beat Rutgers 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Morrison Stadium for the Ameritas Classic Championship.
The Bluejays (2-0-1) claimed the weekend tournament title via the first tiebreaker, goal differential. Both Creighton and Akron finished the Ameritas Classic with 1-0-1 records, but the Jays finished +3 (4 goals scored, 1 allowed) and Akron finished +1 (3 goals scored, 2 allowed).
After Gomez scored at 62:33, CU got another unassisted goal from Christian Blandon at 84:16, then Blandon set up Bruno Castro :34 later to make it 3-0.
Alex Bolowich made three saves for the shutout.
