Imani Cross ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns against the No. 1 defense to highlight the Nebraska spring game Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
Instead of splitting the players into Red and White teams, the scrimmage pitted the offense against the defense. The offense won 55-46 in a scoring system that awarded points to the defense for certain accomplishments.
Top running back Ameer Abdullah was held out to guard against possible injury. Cross racked up all his yards in the first half.
The day was about more than the traditional spring scrimmage. Coach Bo Pelini came out of the tunnel cradling a cat and Jeremiah Sirles proposed to his girlfriend during a punt, pass and kick competition among former players.
