Bellevue scored one run in the second, third and fourth innings, then held on for a 3-2 win over St. Xavier Wednesday afternoon in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Trailing 3-2 in the top of the seventh, SXU loaded the bases with one out, but Jake Aylward got the Bruins out of the jam, forcing a double play to end the game.
Bellevue, which was out-hit 8-3, was led at the plate by Francisco Rosario, who went 1-for-1 with a sacrifice bunt RBI. Andrew Robbins added the other Bellevue RBI on a sacrifice fly. Mike Andrick (2-0) picked up the win, striking out nine and walking two in six innings of work.
SXU took the early lead in the second after Ken Tezak opened with a triple and scored on a passed ball. The Bruins tied it up at 1-1 in the bottom of the second when Maxx Catapano scored on a wild pitch.
Bellevue took its first lead in the third inning when Rosario's sacrifice bunt scored Matt Kabele. The Bruins extended their lead to 3-1 in the fourth following Robbins' sacrfice fly that plated Chad Lambert, who was hit by a pitch and then stole both second and third.
The Cougars led off the top of the sixth inning with three-consecutive singles to cut the Bruin lead to 3-2.
Bellevue lost to Embry-Riddle 6-2 Wednesday night.
