The Huskers resumed practice Tuesday in the Hawks Championship Center, holding a two-hour workout in preparation for the upcoming Holiday Bowl against Arizona.
"It was a decent practice," said coach Bo Pelini. "It was a decent tempo, nothing great. It was pretty average. We have to pick up the tempo even more tomorrow."
The Huskers continued to work on fundamentals as they prepare for the Wildcats on December 30th, but have also incorporated the game plan for Arizona into their work this week. NU looks to have solid practices this week as it will take most of next week off for the holidays.
"This an important week of practice, really important," Pelini said. "It's a schedule I have been around. I like the schedule. You have to make use every time we have practice."
Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was back to the grind for the first time Tuesday after missing three practices to attend award ceremonies in the past week.
The 6-foot-4, 300 pound senior captured numerous major awards, including the Rotary Lombardi Award, the Outland Trophy, the Bronko Nagurski Award and the Chuck Bednarik Award. He was also a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.
The practice field was a welcome sight to Suh, who didn't get much chance to stretch his legs other than when he slipped away to hotel workout rooms. He flew commercial and was cramped sitting in coach.
"I'm tired of traveling, I hate traveling," said Suh, who added to his honors Tuesday when he was announced as a unanimous pick to The Associated Press All-America team.
Suh said he didn't go soft after spending a week on the road. "I'm in fine shape. I don't think I could lose my wind in a week."
While the Holiday Bowl is the main focus for Nebraska, the NU coaching staff will continue to mix in recruiting during the coming weeks, Pelini said.
The Huskers will continue preparations for Arizona on Wednesday with a 2:30 p.m. practice.
