For the first time since the 2005 College World Series, former Husker Alex Gordon played at Rosenblatt Stadium Friday night. The Kansas City Royals third baseman was in Omaha continuing to rehab from a hip injury.
The Lincoln native flew out in his first at-bat against New Orleans, but the next time up he drove a solid single to right and later scored the Royals first run of the game. He would go 1-for-3 with two intentional walks. The game was supended in the 11th inning due to rain with the score tied 2-2.
Gordon had surgery to repair torn cartilage in his hip on April 17th and hasn't played since April 15th. He is expected to rejoin KC sometime this month.
Gordon started playing ball in Arizona last week and after this stop in Omaha he will head to the Royals Double-A club in Arkansas.
