Huskers Dominate Zac Taylor threw a career-high four touchdown passes, Marlon Lucky ran for 103 yards and No. 21 Nebraska prepped for next week's game at Southern California with a 56-7 victory over I-AA Nicholls State on Saturday.

The Cornhuskers (2-0) scored on six of their first seven possessions while building a 42-0 lead.

Nicholls State (1-1), playing a nationally ranked I-A opponent for the first time, didn't cross midfield until its only scoring drive early in the fourth quarter.

The victory was Nebraska's fifth in a row and gave the Huskers their longest winning streak since opening the 2003 season 5-0.

Taylor, who completed 12 passes in a row after Lucky dropped his first attempt, finished 19-of-23 for 202 yards before Joe Ganz relieved him in the fourth quarter.

Taylor threw TD passes of 1 yard to Dane Todd, 19 yards to Matt Herian, 14 yards to Frantz Hardy and 42 yards to Maurice Purify.

Cody Glenn had scoring runs of 1 and 2 yards, Lucky a 1-yarder and Kenny Wilson a 14-yarder.

The Huskers scored on their first three possessions and led 28-0 at halftime.

Stewart Bradley recovered Nicholls State quarterback Vincent Montgomery's fumble near midfield on the opening series, and the Huskers ran on nine of 10 plays before Glenn scored from the 1.

Taylor's touchdown passes to Todd and Herian finished drives of 51 and 39 yards, and his long pass to Purify capped a one-play series.

In the first half alone, Nicholls State managed just three first downs, lost Montgomery to an unspecified injury and fumbled on a fake punt. Grant Thorne, the upback, dropped the snap and Corey McKeon recovered for Nebraska. But the Huskers failed to score -- the only series they didn't convert into points in the first half -- as Jordan Congdon missed a 37-yard field goal.

The Colonels' lone touchdown came after they recovered a muffed punt that brushed the back of Nebraska's Todd Peterson. After Thorne broke loose for 49 yards, Broderick Cole scored from a yard out.

Thorne led the Nicholls State with 65 yards.

Nebraska had 30 first downs to the Colonels' seven and outgained them 498-187.

Lucky 100 Marlon Lucky found his rhythm early on his way to a career-high 103-yard performance in Nebraska's 56-7 victory over Nicholls State on Saturday.

Lucky, who scored on a 1-yard run, is one of four I-backs splitting time. Kenny Wilson finished with 79 yards and a touchdown, Cody Glenn had 47 yards and two scores and Brandon Jackson 29 yards rushing and 25 yards receiving.

"I can't say I separated myself," Lucky said. "I just got in a groove today. Coach said, 'You get in a groove, I'll keep you in.' "

Lucky carried the ball six times for 40 yards on the opening 11-play, 53-yard drive that Glenn capped with his first touchdown.

By the end of the half, Lucky had carried the ball 15 times for 82 yards. The other three backs had 10 carries between them.

Nebraska running backs coach Randy Jordan said there was no plan to feature Lucky. But he said Lucky took advantage of the opportunity he was provided.

"I was really pleased with him in the first half," Jordan said. "He ran real hard and, most important, was ball security. This was a sloppy day, and he covered up both points of the ball. He's grown as a player. Hopefully, he can continue."

Quarterback Zac Taylor said Lucky is playing with more confidence. Both Lucky and Jordan attributed that to Lucky's growing knowledge of the West Coast offense.

"This year, I'm real, real comfortable," Lucky said. "I have the playbook down better. I've got it real good."

Lucky's success, however, doesn't mean that he's established himself as a clear No. 1 among the four Husker running backs, Jordan said.

"These kids understand at every game they've got to be willing to cheer each other on," Jordan said. "I don't have a problem with it. The kids don't have a problem with it. There's enough offense to go around."

On to the Trojans Nebraska can finally start talking about Southern California.

Moments after the Number 21 Cornhuskers dispatched Division One-double-A Nicholls State 56-to-seven today, coach Bill Callahan's weeklong gag order on Trojan talk was officially lifted.

Linebacker Corey McKeon chanted "U-S-C, U-S-C" as he walked off the field.

Defensive end Jay Moore says it was difficult keeping his mind from wandering to next week's road game against the third-ranked Trojans.

Moore says he couldn't help late at night but picture playing U-S-C.

The Huskers (2-0) easily passed today's test against an overmatched opponent.
