Cavel Witter scored 15 of his 25 points in the second half to lead Creighton past Oral Roberts 87-65 Saturday at Qwest Center Omaha.
The junior guard hit three consecutive shots, including a pair of three-pointers, and tallied 13 points during a 28-5 run after intermission that allowed the Bluejays (3-0) to break open a tight game.
The Golden Eagles (1-2) rallied from eights points down to take a 35-33 lead at halftime. The Jays caught fire early in the second, hitting 11 of their first 15 shots. They were up 41-39 when the Eagles' Marcus Lewis was whistled for an intentional foul when he hit Justin Carter from behind on a fast break.
The foul led to a four-point possession for the Jays. Then Witter hit a pair of three-pointers and followed with a steal and layup to make it a 12-point game.
A basket by Chad Millard capped the Creighton run, making it 65-44 with 10:34 left. Oral Roberts, which got 20 points from Dominique Morrison, never got closer than 12 down the stretch.
Booker Woodfox had 12 points and Casey Harriman added 10 for the Jays. Lewis scored 14 points and Robert Jarvis tallied 13 for the Eagles, who fell to 0-2 in road games.
