A crowd of about 300 welcomed home the Nebraska volleyball team from San Antonio, where the Cornhuskers finished the season as NCAA runners-up.

Governor Dave Heineman opened this afternoon's ceremony at the Nebraska Coliseum in Lincoln by proclaiming this week ``Husker Volleyball Week'' across the state.

Chancellor Harvey Perlman, athletics director Steve Pederson, coach John Cook and the team captains addressed the crowd.

Cook said he was overwhelmed by the reception. He said it takes the sting off last night's loss to Washington in the championship match.

The Huskers ended the year 33-and-two.
