Pinch-hitter Steve Gray knocked a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth as Missouri rallied late for a 5-4 win over Creighton Tuesday afternoon in Columbia.
The Tigers trailed 4-1 heading into the eighth. A two-run homer by Trevor Coleman cut the Bluejay lead to 4-3 before Gray's heroics an inning later.
The loss spoiled Robbie Knight's perfect day. The CU center fielder and lead-off man went 5-for-5 with two home runs, three RBIs and three runs scored.
Creighton had Missouri starter Ian Berger on the ropes in the first inning, only to leave the bases loaded while scoring just once.
Knight opened the game with a homer off the scoreboard netting in left. Elliot Soto singled and one out later moved to third on a Steve Winkelmann base hit. Nick Nordgren would strike out looking and after a walk to Vicente Cafaro, Berger got Joe Servais to line out.
After the Tigers tied it in the home half of the first, Knight went yard again in the second inning after Brett Mieras singled for a 3-1 Creighton lead.
Knight scored his third run of the game in the seventh inning. He singled and moved to second on a groundout by Soto. After Darin Ruf and Winkelmann were both hit by pitches to load the bases, Knight came home on a sacrifice fly by Nordgren.
Creighton dropped to 30-17 while the Tigers are now 32-16.
