After being shutout in the first two rounds, three Huskers were selected Sunday during day two of the National Football League draft.

Cornerback Zack Bowman was selected in the fifth round by the Chicago Bears, offensive lineman Carl Nicks was taken later in the round by the New Orleans Saints and outside linebacker Bo Ruud, a three-year starter, was drafted by New England in the sixth round.

Bowman appeared in 11 of 12 games in 2007, starting four, after missing all of 2006 with a knee injury.

Nicks started 11 games at left tackle in 2007. The 330-pound Nicks helped the Huskers finish ninth in the country in yards-per-game.

Iowa cornerback Charles Godfrey, who led the Hawkeyes with five interceptions last season, was taken by the Carolina Panthers in the third round. He was a second-team All-Big Ten selection by the league's coaches in 2007.

Iowa defensive end Kenny Iwebema went in the fourth round to Arizona. Linebacker Mike Humpal was picked by the Pittsburgh Steelers in round six.

Iowa State linebacker Alvin Bowen was chosen in the fifth round by Buffalo. Cyclone nose tackle Ahtyba Rubin was tabbed by the Cleveland Browns in the sixth round.

Northern Iowa guards Chad Reinhart and Brandon Keith, anchors of an offensive line that helped UNI to an unbeaten regular season, were drafted. Reinhart went in the third round to the Washington Redskins and Keith was taken in the seventh round by the Arizona Cardinals.

The Associated Press reports an agent for Chadron State running back Danny Woodhead says the New York Jets have completed a free agent deal for college football's all-time, all-division leading rusher.

Woodhead's agent Chris Gittings says he and Woodhead felt the Jets would be a good fit. Many NFL teams hesitated on Woodhead in the draft because of his size.

Woodhead's 5-foot-7 1/2 frame kept him out of the major college ranks as well, but he racked up 7,962 yards in four seasons for Division II Chadron State.

Terms of the deal for the two-time Harlon Hill Trophy winner were not disclosed.
