Although the quarterback battle has received the most attention in Stillwater this fall, Head Coach Bill Callahan addressed other strengths of the Oklahoma State football team after Wednesday’s practice.

Oklahoma State was part of one of the most exciting college football games this season, outscoring Texas Tech, 49-45 in Stillwater on September 22nd.

The Husker coaching staff was able to evaluate the Cowboy defense which gave up just 10 second-half points to the high-powered Red Raider offense that is ranked first in the nation (590.17 yards per game).

“That was an incredible game,” Callahan said. “I think I’ve watched it four times now. It was a really impressive game on both sides of the ball because they (OSU) move it so well. Tech got some big plays on them, but in the end they (OSU) closed them out.”

The Cowboys have the Huskers’ full attention following last Saturday’s game in Columbia. Nebraska’s offense will face an OSU defense that is ranked 11th in the Big 12 in total defense (430.33 yards per game), but has given up less than 10 points in two games this season.

“We’re in tune with the challenge of Oklahoma State more than anything right now,” said Callahan.

“I think when you watch their front four and their defense, there are a lot of quality players with speed and athleticism. Their linebacking corps is really impressive. They’re fast, quick and can change direction. They play the run and the pass equally as well.”
