Huskers Tumble From Top 25

Nebraska must stew for two weeks in the wake of another abysmal road performance. The Huskers gave up the fourth-most points in program history and most ever in the Bo Pelini era in Saturday's 63-38 loss at Ohio State, which dropped them out of the top 25.

Last week, NU was ranked 21st in The Associated Press media poll and 20th in the USA Today coaches poll.

This came a month after Nebraska surrendered the second-most yards in a loss at UCLA and a week after Pelini, in the glow of a come-from-behind win over Wisconsin, boasted "I haven't forgotten how to coach defense and how to stop the run."

The Huskers (4-2, 1-1 Big Ten) will have to live with the fallout from this one until they play at Northwestern on October 20th. Receiver Kenny Bell says the next two weeks "are going to be brutal."

Iowa State (4-1) entered the USA Today poll at number 25 after upsetting TCU on Saturday.

South Carolina, Florida and West Virginia moved into the top five of the AP poll after a Saturday in which nine Top 25 teams lost. No. 1 Alabama and No. 2 Oregon hold their spots at the top of the rankings. Alabama is a unanimous No. 1 again.

No. 3 South Carolina, off a 35-7 victory against Georgia, moved up three spots. No. 4 Florida jumped six after beating LSU 14-6. No. 5 West Virginia moved up three with a 48-45 victory at Texas.

No. 6 Kansas State, No. 7 Notre Dame and No. 8 Ohio State also moved up. LSU dropped to No. 9 and unbeaten Oregon State is No. 10.

The last time nine ranked teams lost in the same week was the weekend of October 18, 2008.
