Carl Pelini said Friday that his firing from Florida Atlantic last fall was unjustified and the result of a new athletic director who wanted to hire his own football coach.

Pelini told KFAB radio in Omaha that there is nothing he did at Florida Atlantic that he is embarrassed about. Pelini was defensive coordinator at Nebraska for his younger brother, head coach Bo Pelini, from 2008-11. Florida Atlantic was his first head coaching job.

Carl resigned from FAU October 30th amid allegations he used illegal drugs, which he has denied.

The Huskers open the 2014 season in Lincoln against Florida Atlantic on August 30th.
