Speed Zapper: N Broadway & Spencer Ave in Council Bluffs

A viewer request took our next Speed Zapper report to a neighborhood in Council Bluffs.

Neighbors near North Broadway and Spencer Avenue have had enough.

One woman is fearing for her own life.

Every day, Margaret Delano makes the trip from her apartment near North Broadway and Spencer to the local convenience store. "People don't slow down for you or nothing," she says.

Walking is the only way she can get there. It's never easy.

"They don't care how old or how young you are. They don't watch out for you," Delano says.

Dr. Barnes, nearby at Loess Hills Chiropractic on North Broadway, says he's heard his share of squealing tires while he's working. In fact, one time, one of his patients was rear-ended because someone didn't slow down.

He says it's also hard to leave his own office.

"Well, you can see it, but you can't really tell how quick they're going, and some people are on their way up, and they're getting faster as they come," says Dr. Barnes.

We took a look for ourselves with our 6 News Speed Zapper.

While the speed limit is 35, that was actually the average speed we found.

However, the highest speed was 48, which is 13 miles per hour over the legal limit.

Delano hopes she can keep clear of those kinds of speeds. "I don't know. It just seems a lot of people around here just don't care about people that are out walking and stuff," she says.

Our findings have been sent to the Council Bluffs Police Department.
