OMAHA A phone call from a North Omaha viewer got our WOWT 6 News Speed Zapper crew to check out 62nd and Blondo. Tracy Evans told us that she's spotted cars going 60 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour zone, she knows because the street has a sign that tracks drivers’ speed.
With a camera crew on the side of the street, kids waiting for a bus, and a sign tracking drivers speeds the Speed Zapper crew didn't expect to find too many speeders. They were wrong.
It took less than two minutes to find a driver going 45 miles per hour on Blondo, which is 15 miles per hour above the speed limit.
In 20 minutes, our crew found seven additional cars driving between five to 10 miles per hour over the speed limit.
Evans said she's been calling the city for years, but doesn't know what it'll take to slow speeders down.
WOWT 6 News contacted the Public Works Department to see what could be done. According to a worker, the speed sign that's already located there are put up by the police department, WOWT 6 News called them to see if there is another step that is recommended for problem areas. We'll update this story when we hear back.
