Changes are recommended for an intersection northeast of Hastings that's been deemed the most dangerous in rural Nebraska.

The Hastings Tribune reports the Nebraska Local Technical Assistance Program organized a safety audit last week at the Adams County intersection where Showboat Boulevard meets 26th Street.

One of the auditors, Bob Hyberger, says there are some low-cost
things that can be done to make the intersection safer. For example, he says, another stop sign and right turn lane is needed.

Hyberger says it'll be impossible to eliminate all crashes there, but the number can certainly be reduced.

From 2000 to 2010, there were 31 reported crashes at the intersection.
