THE MOTORIOWAY 500 "Wine and Song" Tour of western Iowa cruises into eastern Nebraska too this week. The vintage vehicle tour features 70 pre-1984 cars, trucks and other specialty vehicles. The tour starts in Council Bluffs and finishes in Red Oak and visits six other communities via morning and afternoon "pit-stops" plus lunch stops.
The Cassgram says this year’s theme salutes three famous musicians that were born along the tour route: Clarinda’s Glenn Miller and the Everly Brothers (Don and Phil) of Shenandoah. The tour also recognizes Iowa’s burgeoning wine industry.
The journey comes into Nebraska on Thursday (6/4). First there’s a morning tour of Omaha. It is back into Iowa with a lunch salute to the Everly Brothers in Shenandoah (optional side trip to Nebraska City’s Arbor Lodge State Historical Park.) Then, about 2pm, it’s a pit stop in Plattsmouth. There’s a Thursday evening barbecue at the Western Historic Trails Center.
To welcome the drivers and their passengers to Plattsmouth, the Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Association will provide music, lemonade, cookies, cheese and crackers at the city parking lot. Goodie bags will be handed out, encouraging them to shop in Plattsmouth.
