Omaha Storm Relief
The Salvation Army, Nebraska Furniture Mart, KFAB, WOWT and Hy-Vee stores are coming together to raise money for people affected by power outages after straight-line winds tore through the Omaha Metro area and Council Bluffs last Friday afternoon.

Today, June 30, through Saturday, July 5 (the store is closed on July 4th), The Salvation Army will have red kettles placed throughout Nebraska Furniture Mart, 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., to collect monetary donations for those affected by the storm. Volunteers are also needed to man the kettles during this time. Please call 898-6000 to volunteer.

All funds collected will be used to purchase Hy-Vee gift cards. These will be distributed to those who lost the contents of their refrigerators and freezers due to the extended loss of power. “Our hearts and prayers go out to all, especially for those who are currently without power and may remain without power through the week,” said Joanne Bemis, Divisional Director of Development for The Salvation Army.

In response to the storm and widespread power outages, The Salvation Army has served more than 5,500 meals and will continue providing to those in need. As of today, there are still 24,000 customers without power, according to the Omaha Public Power District.

Monetary donations earmarked “Metro Area Disaster Relief” can be mailed to The Salvation Army, 3612 Cuming Street, Omaha NE 68131, or made online. Click here.
