| Douglas County West may be a small school, but it gives students the opportunity of a big high school. Check out all the great extra curricular activities.
First, all the seniors do a senior project. We even met a student who is creating his own diesel fuel. Plus, students have to do research for their thesis, compile a portfolio of all of their work, and write an 8-10 page paper detalining the project. Students are required to have a mentor from the community to help complete the physical project.
Speaking of projects, we got to work on several focusing on energy in the Physics class. Students worked with helium, hydrogen and dry ice to show us varying forms of creating and using energy.
Finally, students are building their own houses. We got to go inside a log home, that just sold. The community helps raise money for students to build these homes. In turn, they get to sell them and learn about building from the ground up.
