Each month, we recognize a military family in our Heartland Homefront. For June, we head to Bellevue and gather around the dinner table with the Ralston family.
John Ralston knows his way around the grill.
While he grills-it-up outside, inside - family chaos. Three-year-old Logan is putting on a show.
Logan's dad, Matt, is doing reserve training in Rhode Island right now. His wife Lauren and their two kids gather every Sunday at Matt's parents house.
Lauren says, "My mother-in-law is the queen of overcooking. Which is absolutely the best because everyone goes home with a giant Ziploc bag of food!"
This family has four military members in it. All the families gather every Sunday and usually there's around 17 at the table!
"We have extended family that just flocks toward this home for the love and fun we all have together," Lauren told us.
She said the money grew tight when Matt went from active duty to reserves.
"Going from a good job with a stable paycheck to a hard economy was particularly difficult for us," she said.
But this warm welcoming home brings them all together. And Logan provides the laughs.
We’re going to be sharing the stories of area military families here on Heartland Homefront on the first Tuesday of each month. The families featured in our coverage will each receive a $250 grocery gift card. If you would like to nominate a family for consideration, click here
