WOWT and Fareway have partnered to honor our heartland families who are actively serving in the military.
Each month, we honor a special member of our military for their incredible service.
In February, that salute went to the husband and wife team of Seana and Patrick Maltezo.
Seana always knew she wanted to be in the Army. “I wanted to do it since I was five,” she said.
She's a medic and got the call. She was needed in Iraq. “I love helping people,” Seana told us. “And I love taking care of soldiers."
But Seana never expected to fall in love with one in a war zone. She worked right across from her husband Patrick.
“We remained friends for three years. And then he called me up three years later and said, 'I've been in love with you for three years and I want to date you.'"
They got married five years ago and their family grew. Anthony is almost four. Aiden is 21-months.
Right now, dad is away but as Anthony says, they stay in touch, “on the phone - and drive - and fly.”
Seana says, “We try to talk to him every night."
She says some days it's tough while Patrick is away but both of them remain committed to the Army and are proud of the progress they saw in Iraq.
“There were free clinics for the city and there were hundreds of people. They were very, very welcoming to us."
Patrick is reenlisting.
We’re sharing the stories of area military families here on Heartland Homefront on the first Tuesday of each month. The families featured in our coverage each receive a $250 grocery gift card. If you would like to nominate a family for consideration, click here
