WOWT and Fareway have partnered to honor our heartland families
who are actively serving in the military.
Karie and Patrick Quintana have been husband and wife for five years and Karie says, "He's gone on two deployments since we've been married."
Their family has grown in that time too. Hunter is four. Parker is two and full of energy. Karie said, “The first time he was gone, on his first deployment, I was pregnant with Hunter."
Patrick has been serving our country for almost 13 years. He is a member of the U.S. Navy Reserves. He said, “My older sister was in the Navy. My grandpa was in the Navy and I have other relatives in other branches of the military."
One of his tasks overseas is taking care of all the military vehicles we see in war video. “When the war started in Iraq all the vehicles that were damaged or blown-up had to come back," Patrick said. "Basically, they had to go through a wash-down process to get all the dirt and grime off of them."
Patrick has served in Kuwait and Afghanistan. "It is a family," he told us. "This last deployment, I was dealing with some of the British military, the Georgian Army, Air Force..."
Karie was back home trying to balance motherhood and working full-time at Methodist Hospital. She said, “The second deployment, we had both boys so it was really busy this time.”
Patrick says two deployments have made him appreciate time at home even more. "People back here don't understand the long hours you put in, the immense heat, the dust storms, the living conditions."
And as he continues to serve in the Navy, he is cherishing his time with Hunter and Parker.
“He is protecting our country and making sure we are all safe and that we can have the rights and privileges we do."
We’re sharing the stories of area military families here on Heartland Homefront on the first Tuesday of each month. The families
featured in our coverage each receive a $250 grocery gift card. If you would like to nominate a family for consideration, click here
